Northwestern Mutual invites you to participate in a live webinar from its Advanced Planning team on business exit planning. The expert speakers will share strategies about transferring a business to family members, co-owners or employees, or third-party buyers in a tax efficient manner.  The speakers will address overall goals of exit planning and transfer statistics. The speakers will discuss the importance of cash flow planning for individuals and entities.  The speakers will address key exit planning concepts such as business valuation, estate planning strategies, buy-sell planning, estate equalization, preparing a business for sale, and the differences between asset sales and entity sales.

Educational Objectives:

• Understand the income and transfer tax implications of a business transfer to family, sale to co-owners or employees, and sale to a third party.
• Discuss business valuation concepts and steps to take to prepare a business for sale.
• Understand the tax implications of buy-sell planning and understand the tax considerations for asset sales vs. entity sales.
• Understand the concept of after-tax cash flow from a transfer and the implications on personal and retirement planning.

Who would benefit most from attending this program?

This program is designed for attorneys, accountants, and CFP® practitioners who want to learn more about business exit planning. Webinar participants will learn about the types of business exit planning transfers and the corresponding tax considerations. Attorneys, accountants and CFP® practitioners will also receive continuing education credit for their participation. Insurance continuing education will not be offered.

Rebecca H. Hartzel, CPA

Rebecca Hartzel is a Managing Director with nearly twenty years’ of experience working with affluent individuals and their families, family offices and privately held companies and their owners. She leads the Private Wealth practice for the Milwaukee office. She enjoys working with the entire family group, helping to transfer wealth from one generation to the next and does so through compliance and consulting in the partnership, S corporation, individual, fiduciary, gift, estate and private foundation areas. She joined the firm in May 2002 and was previously with Arthur Andersen. Rebecca is a member of the WICPA and AICPA. She is an active participant and leader in National training at Deloitte as well as a frequent speaker on tax topics in southeast Wisconsin. She is also a member to the Milwaukee Estate Planning Forum, the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Planned Giving Council and active at Christ King Parish in Wauwatosa.  Rebecca graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with a BBA in Accounting.

Matt joined Northwestern Mutual in 2014. He works closely with Northwestern Mutual’s experts in business exit planning and estate planning strategies. He worked at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP’s Private Client Group, focusing on high net worth client’s complex needs. He focused on estate and succession planning for family business owners.  Matt received bachelor’s degree in finance and an accounting minor from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.  He received a law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a M.S. in taxation from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
